As downtown Grand Haven merchants covered their merchandise with tents and moved items indoors, shoppers participated in the first day of Sidewalk Sales.
The event continues today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Washington Avenue between Harbor Drive and Third Street.
Despite a light rainfall in the early afternoon, Grand Rapids resident Ellie Vanzee, 18, spent time looking at the sales Friday. Vanzee, who is camping in Grand Haven, said she bought a few T-shirts and thought the event was “cool.”
Although Lemongrass has participated in Sidewalk Sales every year, this year is the first time they’ve moved items indoors because of rain, said the store’s owner, Leslie Franks.
The Friday of Sidewalk Sales has traditionally been one of the busiest days for Lemongrass, Frank said. However, the traffic on Friday was a little lighter than normal, but Frank said she thinks today will make up for the lower turnout because rain wasn’t in the forecast.
Overall, Franks said she enjoys seeing everyone and all of her customers.
“It’s fun,” she said.
