Beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, the public can watch the midway come together and the big top rise when the Kelly Miller Circus sets up on Grand Haven’s Harbor Island. The shows are at 5 and 7:30 p.m. that day.
Show tickets purchased in advance are $10 for adults and $7 for children. Advanced tickets will be sold until noon Tuesday locally and online at kellymillercircus.com.
Tickets at the door are $13 for adults and $8 for children. Children ages 2 and younger are free.
The Tri-Cities Kiwanis will collect $5 for parking. In exchange, drivers will receive coupons for local businesses.
For the 14th year, the local Kiwanians are bringing the traveling circus to Grand Haven. The event is the service club’s main fundraiser to support their children’s programs, said Kiwanian Bill Swano.
According to the circus’ website, performers include fire breather and ringmaster Lamount, rola bola performer Fridman Torales, hula hoop artist Miss Deya, table perchers Mende and Zaiya, aerialist Emilie, clowns Ez and Kozee, juggler Weaam Hassan, and the Mongolian Troupe.
Exotic animals aren’t part of the 2018 show, Swano said.
Each year, the Tri-Cities Kiwanis provides individuals facing hardships or challenges with an opportunity to attend the circus. Last year, about 125 children from groups such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, The Salvation Army and No More Sidelines attended the circus on Harbor Island and received something from the concession stand.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Coldwell Banker, Jumpin’ Java, Fifth Third Bank, Grand Haven Tribune, North Ottawa Community Hospital, Orchard Market in Spring Lake, Leppinks, Sweet Temptations, Fortino’s, Front Porch, @Home Realty, Tri-Cities Family YMCA and Tri-Cities Historical Museum.
