Grand Haven will be hosting a Labor Day Bridge Walk for the 10th consecutive year.

The walk will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at the north end of the Third Street Bridge, taking participants along the boardwalk to the south pier, then loop back to the Chinook Pier for refreshments and a raffle.

The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and the Michigan Fitness Foundation recently endorsed the walk as a quality physical activity event.

Every year, between 25,000 and 60,000 people from several states and countries travel to the top of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula for the annual walk across the Mackinac Bridge. It has taken place since 1958, the year after the bridge opened to traffic.

Grand Haven residents and visitors have held their own Labor Day Bridge Walk since 2009. About 150 people walked it last year.
