As the leaves begin to fall, yard waste drop-off sites will be available in Grand Haven.

The city’s two drop-off sites are scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to noon on each consecutive Saturday beginning Oct. 20 through Dec. 8.

The sites are at Griffin Elementary School, 1700 S. Griffin St.; and Lakeshore Middle School, 900 Cutler St.

Republic Services only accepts biological, decomposing materials — including leaves, grass clippings, vegetable and other garden debris, shrubbery, brush, and tree trimmings. Materials not accepted are stumps, agricultural waste, animal waste, roots, base of shrubs, sewage sludge and garbage.

Plastic bags and containers used to transport yard waste may not be left at the sites, while two-ply paper bags are accepted and can be deposited directly into the collection vehicles.

Brush must be tied in bundles no more than 4 feet in length, with no individual branches more than 2 1/2 inches in diameter.

Biodegradable twine for bundling limbs and biodegradable bags are suggested.
