“At this point, we have not completed our assessment of when the repairs will be completed and the pier can safely open,” said Matthew Carmer, Consumers Energy’s natural resources administrator for hydro operations. “We regret any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause, but winter storms created significant erosion to the boardwalk and damage to the north pier, making the site unsafe for public use. Safety is the top priority at Consumers Energy.”
The Pigeon Lake access site opened for public use in 2001 in accordance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as part of the license agreement for Consumers Energy to operate the Ludington Pumped Storage facility. It is typically open for public use from April 15 to Oct. 15, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Consumers Energy has notified FERC about the temporary closure, and is currently assessing the damage and scheduling repair work.
