Alec Brzezinski has joined the Grand Haven Tribune as sports writer.

Brzezinski, who graduated with a journalism degree from Oakland University, started his writing career with the MLive Media Group, where he worked on the sports desk covering high school and college sports. After nearly two years there, he pursued a new opportunity at Perform Media in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Perform Media, a start-up company in the United States, acted as a sports wire service, covering college and professional sports in about a half-dozen countries. During his time in Charlotte, Brzezinski pumped up PGA Tour, NBA and MLB coverage, while maintaining a close relationship with U.S. client Sporting News.

After a year in Charlotte, Brzezinski moved to Chicago to pursue a master’s degree at DePaul University in writing and publishing. While continuing his education, he worked remotely for Perform. He was afforded the opportunity to cover the NFL Draft, Copa America Centenario and the Ryder Cup in 2016.

Although Brzezinski said he enjoyed his time at Perform, he felt stuck professionally and overwhelmed living in the big city. Born and raised in South Haven, he decided a career change was necessary, so he applied to newspapers and television stations in smaller markets.

“I really wanted to settle back into a smaller city to raise a family,” he said. “Chicago, and big cities like it, provide plenty of career opportunities, but they are a bit suffocating and lonely. Grand Haven is the perfect fit for me professionally and personally.”

Brzezinski, 27, is engaged to be married.

“I’m excited to get started and utilize my skill set to help further enhance the Grand Haven Tribune’s excellent reporting,” he added.
