NOCH Auxiliary receives donation

• May 1, 2019 at 1:00 PM

Through a grocery store chain’s “Direct Your Dollars” program, the North Ottawa Hospital Auxiliary recently received a $1,000 donation.

“Direct Your Dollars” is offered at more than 130 SpartanNash-owned stores in eight states — including all D&W Fresh Markets and Family Fare Supermarkets — and gives store guests a way to support their favorite local charities, schools and nonprofit organizations. Each time an eligible organization collects $150,000 in original receipts, they can redeem those receipts for $1,000 from SpartanNash.

Grand Haven D&W Store Director Don Fetrow presented the $1,000 check to North Ottawa Hospital Auxiliary President Jackie Thoroughman and President-Elect Carla Leathem on behalf of the program. The money will be used for patient care equipment for North Ottawa Community Hospital.

The North Ottawa Hospital Auxiliary was founded in 1919 by 13 women who formed a Free Bed Guild for the new hospital in Grand Haven. For the past 100 years, the auxiliary has continued to fulfill its mission of giving through volunteer services within the North Ottawa Community Health System, gifts to both the hospital and the community, and scholarships. The auxiliary currently has more than 275 members, of which 180 are volunteers, and has donated more than $1.5 million over the years for various needs within the health system.

Organizations interested in participating in the “Direct Your Dollars” program can visit SpartanNash.com/DirectYourDollars for promotional materials, receipt submission forms and more.
