The seasonally adjusted rate announced by state officials Wednesday is down 0.2 percentage points to the lowest monthly mark since August 2008.

Michigan's unemployment rate has dropped for seven consecutive months. The jobless rate was 9 percent in January.

State officials said total employment rose by 22,000 in February, and unemployed dropped by 8,000. The total number of nonfarm payroll jobs rose slightly, although there was a drop in manufacturing jobs.

The gap between the national rate and the state rate has narrowed significantly in recent months. The national unemployment rate was 8.3 percent in February.
