He was born in Grand Haven, Michigan, on August 21, 1947, to Major and Gertrude (Prior) Zalsman, and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married the former Christine Roseboom on July 7, 1966.
Mr. Zalsman had been employed as an auto mechanic at Rod's Auto Parts and an industrial mechanic for Sara Lee until retiring. Charles was a member of Evergreen Golf Course and a former member of the American Legion. He enjoyed riding his bicycle, golf, playing cards and going to casinos. Charles helped build nine houses and loved to tinker, especially in carpentry. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Survivors: daughter, Joann Zalsman of Grand Haven; son, Charles (Sara) Zalsman Jr. of Grand Haven; grandchildren: Jacob,Caleb, Miles and Wyatt; sister, Lucille R. (Rodney) Kruithoff of Zeeland; and sister-in-law, Jean Zalsman of Grand Haven. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine in 2000; brothers: LeRoy, Philip and Elmer; and sisters, Marjorie Currier and Rose Stille.
Service: Tuesday, December 5, 2017, 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service at Clock Chapel - Grand Haven with Pastor Bill Russell officiating and Military Honors. Interment in Lakeshore Cemetery.
