Linda was born in Glenview, Ill., on May 13, 1946. She was the first-born child of Margaret Jane and Soule Tryon “Bill” Bitting. After attending the Missouri School of Journalism at the University of Missouri, Linda obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Media Arts from Grand Valley State University. She married Fred Strevy in 1982 and remained his partner for 35 years.
A writer at heart, Linda spent many years at the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, also serving as its executive director. Along with writing, she had a love for books and was always on the lookout for a new author. Friends talk about her creativity and ability to reuse and refurbish older pieces long before it was a trend. She also enjoyed cooking and considered her Fanny Farmer Cookbook one of her prized possessions. “No one cooks their fanny off like Fanny Farmer,” she would say. Outdoors, Linda was an avid gardener and spent summer hours tending to her flowers or hitting the local golf course with Fred. Together, they spent many years taking care of their longtime companion, Sonny, the basset hound. Linda had a quick sense of humor and was a spiritual person who above all loved her family.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Bill; brother, Soule Tryon “Ty” Bitting; and her beloved springer spaniels. She is survived by her husband, Fred Strevy; children, Matthew (Amy) Baumann and Charles Baumann; sister, Julia (Robert) Fullerton; sister-in-law, Miriame Bitting; grandchildren, Aidan and Connor; nephews: Ben Fredericks, Louis Fredericks and Sam Fredericks, George Fullerton, and Robinson Bitting.
A memorial in celebration of her life with family and friends will be held at a later date.
