James Francis Fuller, aged 86, of Rockford, Mich., passed away peacefully at his favorite place, his home on Bostwick Lake, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. He was born in Grand Rapids in 1932 to the late Clarence and Martha Fuller.

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret (Bruinsma); and his children: James (Linda), Timothy (Jennifer), Deborah (Henry) Betten and Gregory (Heather); as well as by his 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Ann VanderSchuur and Jane Sikkema; and his dear companion of many years, Joann Long.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed a long and successful career as a dedicated employee for Consumers Power. Jim had been a Life Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, most recently engaged with Troop 165 in Grand Haven. He was an active member of the American Legion. He and Joann were faithful attendees at Hope Lutheran Church in Rockford. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, singing in the church choir, walking his dog and donating his time to help at the food bank. Most importantly, Jim will be fondly remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

A Celebration of Jim’s life, with military honors, will take place at 12 noon Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Reyers North Valley Chapel with family visitation prior, beginning at 11 a.m. In keeping with Jim’s philosophy on life, please come casually dressed to his celebration. Per his wishes, Jim’s family generously have donated his earthly remains to the Willed Body Program at Michigan State University.

Memorial contributions may be directed to: Boy Scouts of America (Michigan Crossroad Council, Boy Scouts of America, 137 S. Marketplace Blvd., Lansing, MI 48917).
