He was born August 17, 1922, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He served in World War II in the Army, fought in the Pacific Theater and earned the Victory Medal, three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and many more.
He was a graduate of Hope College and worked for IBM as a systems engineer.
Bill is survived by his loving family: daughter Karen (Bill Burns); son William Jr. (Anita) Oakes; daughter Suellyn (Jeffrey) Cort; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harry (Lorraine) Oakes. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia (Olson) Oakes.
