Ronald Earl Holland

Mr. Ronald E. Holland, age 96, of Spring Lake passed away Friday, January 4, 2019, at the Heartwood Lodge Hospice House. He was born November 10, 1922, in Lansing, Mich., to Basil and Gladys (Gunter) Holland. On June 1, 1946, he married Helen Ray Fightmaster in Lincoln Park, Mich.

Ron graduated from East Jordan High School and then went on to serve his country with the U. S. Army during World War II in the Philippines, and was honorable discharged as a sergeant first class. Ron and his wife, Helen, owned and operated the Village Flower Shop in Spring Lake for 36 years, along with help from their children, Rich and Linda.

Ron was a member of the Covenant Life Church and a member of the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28. He was a former member of the Spring Lake Rotary Club, the Spring Lake Country Club, the Optimist Club and the Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golfing and bowling in his spare time.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Helen; his son, Richard (Bonnie) of Spring Lake; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Little, in 2017; his parents; two sisters, Doris and Donna; and his brother, Fred.

A memorial service for Ron will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven with Pastor Bob De Vries officiating. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends are invited to meet the family one hour prior to the service or at a reception following the service at the church.
