She was born January 19, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Azel E. and Celene E. (Rowe) Bean. She was a graduate of Ridgewood High School’s Class of 1955 in New Jersey, and went on to attend Boston Conservatory of Music to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
Carolyn worked as an administrative assistant at Mitsubishi in New York City, the Orchestral Hall in Chicago, and Topco in Skokie, Illinois. In 1995, Carolyn moved to Grand Haven and became a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, where she eventually became a lay reader and Eucharistic minister.
Carolyn loved the arts and music, and after her move to Grand Haven, joined the Central Park Players. Her last production was playing the lead part in “On Golden Pond” at the age of 75. Carolyn was a musician who enjoyed playing the piano, doing word search puzzles, reading and watching old movies.
Carolyn is lovingly remembered by her sister, Eleanor Hinchman of Grand Haven; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Chastain.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church at a later date. Interment will be at Oakhill Cemetery, Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Ottawa Community or the Central Park Players. Please visit www.klaassenfuneralhome.com to sign Carolyn’s online guestbook.
