Mark D. Demerest was called home by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at the age of 60.

Mark, the youngest of three children, was born January 17, 1959, in West Branch, Michigan, to the late James and Beverly Demerest. In 1978, he married his high school sweetheart, and for the next 40 years they raised four beautiful children and welcomed the blessing of 11 grandchildren. At 19 years old, Mark enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served honorably for 20 years. His military career included sailing on the U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle, serving at Central Regional Recruiting Command, and retiring as chief warrant officer, Coast Guard Investigative Service.

After retiring to Grand Haven, Michigan, he attended Cornerstone University pursuing a Bible degree, enjoyed hunting and fishing in the great outdoors, and loved being with his family and grandchildren. Mark was passionate about God, his family and his country. As peace surrounds him in the glory of heaven, here on earth he will be deeply missed and dearly loved.

Mark is survived by Linda Demerest, Christi Klein (Todd), Lindsay Rycenga (Rocky), Jennifer Reinecke (Jason), James Demerest (Liz), Grace, Hailey, Andrew, Austin, Hannah, Colton, Noah, Georgia, Miles, Benjamin and Tyler; his sister, LeeAnn Wade (Mike); and brother, Dan Demerest (Debbie); and many extended family members.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Lake Shore Cemetery in Grand Haven.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 NKJV
