In a tweet on Friday, U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga of Zeeland retweeted a fellow Republican’s denouncement of Trump’s “s**thole countries” statement, when talking about immigration.
U.S. Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, called the president’s comments “unkind, divisive, elitist, and fly in the face of our nation’s values. This behavior is unacceptable from the leader of our nation.”
Huizenga said in his tweet: “Mia is one of my dearest friends in the House and I wholeheartedly agree with her. We have discussed the terrible conditions in Haiti and elsewhere various times and I look forward to working with @RepMiaLove and other colleagues as we help address the issues facing Haiti.”
Love also said the president “must apologize to both the American people and the nations he so wantonly maligned.”
Love, whose mother and father are from Haiti, is the first black female Republican elected to Congress and the first black American elected to Congress from Utah.
