The Grand Haven boys soccer team fell behind by one goal to host Grandville early on in Wednesday’s O-K Red Conference match, but the Buccaneers responded with a championship effort.

Grand Haven would knot the game at 1-1 at halftime and score two second-half goals to record a 3-1 comeback win over the Bulldogs.

Senior forward Conner Lund scored his 20th goal of the season off an assist from Mason Mahacek late in the first half for the Buccaneers’ first goal.

In the second half, Mahacek scored an unassisted goal at the 35:37 mark to give Grand Haven a lead. The junior playmaker would add another goal off an assist from Lund later in the second half to help the Bucs pull away for the win.

Jake Thayer started in goal and Filiberto Juarez played the second half.

Grand Haven improves to 12-3-3 overall and finishes 7-3-2 in the O-K Red Conference.

The squad now prepares to play Mona Shores in the opening round of the Division 1 districts Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Mona Shores High School.
