WMC SOCCER ON TO DISTRICT FINAL
The Western Michigan Christian girls soccer team continued their late-season surge with a 3-1 victory over Ravenna in their Division 4 district semifinal matchup.
Anna Sytsema got the scoring started with an unassisted goal off a corner kick. The Warriors’ precarious 1-0 lead held into halftime.
Four minutes into the second half, Claudia Kingma doubled the lead, scoring an assist by Emily Rosema. Finally, Madisynn Pearce iced the victory, converting an assist by Natalie Riksen.
The victory sets WMC up for a date with the winner of North Muskegon vs. Muskegon Catholic Central in the district finals at Muskegon Catholic Central on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
WMC GOLF THIRD AT REGIONAL
The Western Michigan Christian boys golf team finished third overall at their Division 4 regional event Thursday, carding a 349 to earn a team bid to the state tournament.
Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian took top honors at 314, while Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart finished runner-up at 346.
Junior Dan Vanbiesbrouck and senior Chandler Breit led the Warriors with 18-hole scores of 85, tying for ninth place overall. Owen Alfree followed in seventeenth overall at 89, ahead of Caleb Minaslan carding a 90 for 18th place and Jeffery Merz in 31st place with a 103.
North Muskegon finished 12th as a team with 456 strokes, while Muskegon Catholic Central took 14th at 466. Fruitport Calvary Christian competed with just two athletes, freshman Matt Anderson carded a 118, while eighth-grader Tyler McKee turned in a 160.
WMC will conclude their season at the Division 4 state championships June 8-9 at Forest Akers East on the campus of Michigan State University.
