Despite holding a 2-1 lead early in the second half, the Lakers couldn't hang on for a result, as the Sailors scored an equalizer late to conclude the contest in a 2-2 tie.
Spring Lake started off strong, hitting the post and then scoring in the first 10 minutes of the game. A goal by Eli Denslow on an assist from Evan Ernst got the Lakers off to a good start. But, a defensive error allowed a tying goal from Mona Shores, which locked the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
A Mona Shores handball allowed Charlie Parker to score on a penalty kick early in the second half, which gave the Lakers a 2-1 lead, but the Sailors came back and tied the game up late to force the 2-2 tie.
The Lakers will return to the pitch Thursday, as they travel to Sparta for their first O-K Blue Conference game of the season.
GRAND HAVEN SOCCER FALLS TO ROCKFORD
In their first O-K Red Conference clash of the season, the Grand Haven boys soccer team fell to Rockford in a 1-0 road loss Monday.
"It was a good game played by both teams, but Rockford scored late in the game and that was the deciding play," said Grand Haven head coach Nick Tejchma. "We currently are battling a few injuries on our team and having players step up is a key component at the moment. We look forward to hosting Grandville at home Wednesday and hopefully bouncing back after a few games on the road."
