Hannah Wilkerson signed her national letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Ferris State University during a signing-day ceremony at Grand Haven High School on Monday.

Wilkerson, a senior, was a starting forward on the Buccaneers’ girls basketball team that won the Class A state championship last winter.

On a star-studded team, Wilkerson provided outstanding defense and timely scoring for the Bucs.

She looks forward to anther outstanding season in the Blue and Gold of Grand Haven before trading those colors in for Ferris’ Maroon and Gold.

“I always knew I wanted to play basketball in college,” Wilkerson said. “This summer, I started taking visits to places I thought I might want to go.

“I really liked Ferris’ coach, and I got along great with the team. I stopped taking visits after Ferris because I knew that’s where I wanted to go.”

Wilkerson also visited Lake Superior State, Davenport and Grand Valley State.

The 5-foot-10-inch Wilkerson will give Ferris an athletic player who will fit in well with their up-tempo style.

“They run a fast-paced game, play good defense,” she said.

Ferris State had a tremendous season a year ago with a 23-7 record. The Bulldogs have started slow out of the gates this year with a 1-2 mark.

Wilkerson will join former Bucs teammate Kaeding Skelton as a player in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Skelton is currently a freshman at Lake Erie (Ohio) College.
