The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association announced its 2017-18 High School Boys Swimming All-American list recently and one local team made the prestigious cut.

The top 100 times across the country are recognized by the association as All-American for both relay and individual events.

The Grand Haven boys swimming team was nominated for two relay events, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay, after their times at the MHSAA Division 1 state championship meet at Eastern Michigan University on March 9.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Grant Ruster, Jordan Devries, Eli Vandenbrand and Mark Wilgenburg came in 73rd place nationally to earn All-American status with a time of 1 minute, 25.13 seconds at the state meet. The time earned them All-State honors with a third-place finish and also broke a school record in the process.

The 400 freestyle team of Ruster, Devries, Vandenbrand and Mason Fritz narrowly missed the cut with a time of 3:08.89, which placed them sixth in the state this past winter to earn All-State honors as a team.
