Former Spring Lake swimming standout Meg Peel was honored as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Swimmer of the Week for her performance for Hope College in the MIAA relay meet over the weekend.

Peel, Spring Lake class of 2017, posted two of the fastest times in NCAA Division III while winning the 50-yard breaststroke at Holland Aquatic Center on Friday.

Her backstroke time of 27.23 seconds is the seventh fastest in the nation so far this season, while her opening leg of the three-person 1,500-meter relay clocked in at 5:13.31, ranking as the seventh fastest in Division III and the quickest in the conference thus far.

The MIAA relay meet was the first of the season for the Flying Dutch. They will return to action Friday, as they host Davenport at the Hope College Dow Center.

The honor is the first for Peel this season and her third recognition in her career.
