Grand Haven sophomore tennis standout Noah Bachmann had a strong showing at the Division 1 tennis state finals on Friday.

The sophomore No. 1 singles player won his first match of the day over an opponent from Ann Arbor Pioneer, 6-0 and 6-2.

Bachmann then faced an opponent from Rochester Adams in the round of 16. After an early lead, Bachmann wasn’t able to close out the first set, and fell in the match, 6-4 and 6-0.

“Noah played very well in his first time playing in this big event taking out a senior in his first match,” said Grand Haven head coach Chris Wilton. “He ran into a player in the second round that he had his chances with and should feel good about that.

“Any time you can win a match at states in Division 1 at No. 1 singles, it is a big deal. Noah finished in the final 16 players in the state, which was a great result. I think he will build from this and keep improving over the next year.”
