ROBINSON TWP. — Residents commuting over the Green Street bridge over Stearns Bayou in Robinson Township will need to find an alternate route beginning next week.

The Ottawa County Road Commission is getting ready to start a nearly month-long rehabilitation project on the bridge.

“It’s just basically a preventative maintenance project,” Road Commisson Project Engineer Brandt Homik said.

The project will include concrete resurfacing of the bridge over the bayou, and work on about 150 feet of road approach at each end in the township.

“We’re going to take the top 4 inches of concrete off the bridge and repair it,” Homik explained. “It’ll take a lot of potholes off the surface and make it a smooth ride once again. ... Each side of concrete on the bridge, we’ll mill that down and put new approaches in.”

Homik said the estimated cost of the bridge rehab project is $220,000.

Work is expected to begin Monday, April 10, and Homik said he anticipates it being completed by the middle of May.

“It could be give or take (a few weeks), depending on whether or not we find things we didn’t expect to find,” Homik said.

As a result, Green Street will be closed from 144th Avenue to 128th Avenue during the project. Road Commission officials say motorists will be required to detour around the work, with the route being 144th Avenue, Lincoln Street and 128th Avenue.
