Harbor Drive will not be reopened today

Harbor Drive in downtown Grand Haven is now expected to be reopened to vehicle traffic next week.

The recent estimation for its reopening was today, after weather delays impeded the progress of the road reconstruction this fall. Due to snow accumulation and cold weather this week, the project is now expected to be completed by Dec. 7.

The street remaining closed will not affect the traditional route of Saturday’s Jingle Bell Parade in downtown Grand Haven, officials said.

This week, contractors have worked to install sidewalks, grade out lawn areas, and install street signs and top soil. An electrical contractor was expected to install traffic signal poles — work that is now scheduled to be completed next week.

The final paving of surfaces will take place in the coming spring, which may cause road closures while the work is completed.

When Harbor Drive is reopened next week, adjacent portions of Franklin and Columbus avenues are also expected to be reopened.
