Fruitport volleyball wins share of league title

The Fruitport volleyball team secured a share of the O-K Black Conference Championship on Thursday with back-to-back wins at their home double dual event.

The Trojans defeated Mona Shores (25-15, 25-17, 26-24) and Reeths-Puffer (20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12) to finish 11-1 in league play to tie with Jenison for the league crown.

Kailey Carmean recorded five aces, 47 assists and 26 digs to lead the Trojan attack, while Jordyn Carlyle added 24 kills, 23 assists and 14 digs. Kylie Oberlin had 20 kills, six blocks and 16 digs; Rachel Paulsen added 18 kills and 15 digs; Sydney Bol had three blocks and 11 digs; and Trinity Busscher had a team-high 29 digs.

Fruitport finishes the season 32-13 overall and will now turn their attention to the postseason. The Trojans will face Whitehall on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Division 2 district tournament at Orchard View High School.
