A pair of former Buccaneer athletic standouts received Michigan Athletic Conference distinctions, continuing honorable legacies left at Grand Haven High School.

Chase VanHoef, class of 2015, was named to the MAC All-Academic team for the third time in his college career for his 3.96 GPA as a criminal justice/criminology major at Kent State. VanHoef played offensive line for the Golden Flashes and graduated in December.

Amy Kober, a fellow class of 2015 grad of VanHoef and volleyball player at Kent State, was named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete. The scholar athletes are chosen from “the best of the best” of each season’s All-Academic teams.

Kober earned the honor by carrying a 3.92 GPA as a senior public health major while finishing second on the team in kills with 221 on the year and third in blocks with 44 to round out her fourth letter-earning year.

The pair of former Bucs were recipients of the GHHS Sluka Award in 2015.
