SPRING LAKE – The COVID-19 pandemic has caused hardship for many in Michigan, closing doors to countless businesses. At the same time, the pandemic has unexpectedly opened a door to a niche business in Spring Lake with more than 70 years of history.

When the pandemic struck Michigan 18 months ago, it forced Bill Sanders, owner of Bill’s Sport Shop, to initially close its doors. The second-generation owner said he didn’t have to close – deemed as an essential business for their transportation products, they could have remained open. But in the face of the unknown, Sanders decided to shut down for a time.
