The Northwest Ottawa Recreation Authority (NORA) recently launched its Big Give campaign, aiming to raise $10,000 in just 14 days.

The funds raised will be exclusively dedicated to the NORA Recreation Summer School program, a low-cost summer day camp that provides a nurturing and engaging environment for children in elementary and intermediate school.

This year, the program will take place at Lake Hills Elementary School for six weeks during the summer, from Monday to Thursday, between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

NORA’s Recreation Summer School program offers a wide range of activities and experiences to children who might not have had access otherwise.

The program strives to foster personal growth, physical development, and social interaction among participants while ensuring a memorable and enjoyable summer experience.

With a focus on affordability and inclusivity, the program ensures that children from various backgrounds can benefit from its offerings. By providing new equipment, activities, and sustaining the program for years to come, the funds raised through the NORA Big Give campaign will make a lasting impact on the lives of these young participants.

One of the key aspects of the program is its dedication to providing affordable opportunities. Children can register for the program at a low cost, enabling families from all socioeconomic backgrounds to participate. Furthermore, through the Meet Up & Eat Up program, participants also receive free lunch, ensuring that children’s nutritional needs are met throughout the day.

The Recreation Summer School program offers a diverse range of activities and experiences designed to engage and entertain children. In addition to a stimulating curriculum, children will also embark on walking and biking field trips to local parks, where they will explore nature, go fishing, hike trails, and partake in various sports activities. Moreover, guest speakers will be invited to share their knowledge and inspire young minds, making the program an enriching and educational experience.

The NORA Big Give campaign serves as an opportunity for the Grand Haven community to come together and support the youth in their pursuit of a fun-filled and fulfilling summer. By donating to this cause, community members can play an active role in shaping the lives of local children, allowing them to experience new adventures and build cherished memories.

NORA is calling upon the generosity and philanthropic spirit of individuals, businesses, and organizations to contribute to this noble endeavor. Every dollar raised will have a direct impact on the lives of children in the community and will help sustain the Recreation Summer School program for years to come.

“Together, let us create a summer full of growth, joy, and unforgettable experiences for the young minds of Grand Haven,” said NORA Executive Director Chris Van Hekken.

This program used to be Open Playground and my mom sent us every summer to play and we loved it. Good to see its continuing and will wholeheartedly support this campaign!
