President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden participate in the first presidential debate at the Health Education Campus of Case Western Reserve University, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, in Cleveland.

WASHINGTON — Personal insults. Chaos on stage. More interruptions than anyone can count.

The country has never before seen a presidential debate like the one that took place between Donald Trump and Joe Biden on Tuesday in Cleveland, Ohio, the first of three scheduled showdowns between the two candidates.

This was more a debacle than debate. Trump's abusive performance was a disgrace to the debate forum, an insult to the American people, and an embarrassment witnessed by the world. I have always tuned into presidential debates as a way to understand each candidates' policies, plans, and personalities. Trump's nonstop unpresidential bullying, insults, and interruptions, made with contempt and condescension, is apparently all he's got to offer.
