Three fulltime firefighters have joined the ranks of Spring Lake Fire and Rescue, taking the department on the next step toward its goal of providing 24/7 service to Spring Lake Township.
POLKTON TWP. — Area firefighters not only fought a major fire on Monday, but they also fought extreme cold that caused frostbite, frozen lines and hoses, and frozen brakes on the fire trucks.
Injuries were minor in a secondary crash that occurred close to a property-damage-only crash being policed at around noon Wednesday on Mercury Drive, east of Robbins Road in Grand Haven Township.
CROCKERY TWP. — Damage was minimal but the occupants in all four apartments were evacuated after a fire started in one of the units at 14340 State Road Tuesday night.

FERRYSBURG — Two people were injured when a semi-truck jackknifed on southbound U.S. 31 just north of the Grand Haven drawbridge early Thursday afternoon.
Update (2 p.m.) – Some traffic is now making its way through on the southbound lanes, although most vehicles are being diverted through Spring Lake.
Area firefighters were at several Northwest Ottawa County locations this past Friday and Saturday collecting toys and financial donations for the annual American Legion Goodfellows Crusade for Toys.

FERRYSBURG — The driver was injured when a semi-truck hauling gravel tipped over on the entrance ramp to northbound U.S. 31 in Ferrysburg Tuesday morning.

ROBINSON TWP. — A Grand Haven woman was pinned in her vehicle after a two-car crash Friday morning at the intersection of Lincoln Street and 136th Avenue in Robinson Township.
While local and state officials paid virtual tributes to Jim Koster and the Koster family legacy Monday night, the longtime firefighter and now deputy chief of the Spring Lake Fire Department said, “The real honor is being able to serve this community.”
GRAND HAVEN TWP. — Firefighters cut two large holes in the roof of a home at 14673 Ammeraal Ave. in Grand Haven Township in order to extinguish a fire there Tuesday afternoon.
