A Grand Haven mother and son took advantage of a warm and breezy winter’s day to try out the child’s new kite.

“It’s from my birthday,” exclaimed Louie Johnson, who turned 4 on Feb. 10.

“I’m flying my kite over your head,” he laughed as he maneuvered the kite, with the help of mom Frannie Johnson, on Tuesday afternoon at Grand Haven City Beach.

“We thought it would be a good day to get out here,” Frannie said.

Originally from the area, Frannie said that she and her husband moved back after spending several years in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to be closer to family.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids says that today should be similar to Tuesday, but with more clouds. Thursday and Friday will see a slight drop in temperature, with highs in the lower 30s. It warms up again to near 40 for Saturday and Sunday.

The next chance of rain or snow showers is predicted for Sunday night.
