As part of remediating portions of Harbor Island and demolishing the J.B. Sims coal-fired plant, the Grand Haven Board of Light & Power board has approved multiple improvements during its most recent meeting.

The municipal utility’s Board of Directors approved contracting with Catskill Remedial Contracting Services Inc. for about $2 million – contingent on receiving the necessary permit from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy – to perform the clean closure of the coal combustion residuals impoundments on Harbor Island.
