Ottawa Sands 1

On Tuesday, ARPA funds were awarded by the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners to go toward funding the first phase of the master plan for the Ottawa Sands park in Ferrysburg. The county park includes an 80-acre lake.

WEST OLIVE — Back in 2021, the federal government allocated Ottawa County $57 million from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). To try and figure out how best to spend the money, the county surveyed residents and decided to put some of it toward affordable housing, broadband internet service and funding its eviction prevention program for the next three years.

On Tuesday, in a move that some deemed rushed, over the course of four and a half hours, the Board of Commissioners discussed and approved how to spend the majority of the remaining funds. There was a total of 31 items for them to consider, of which the board approved 23.
