Grants to help grow small businesses

The Grand Haven Area Community Foundation staff: Barb VanHeest, Tammy Bailey, Holly Johnson, Colleen Mitchell, Melanie Swiftney and Monica Verplank.

The Board of the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, together with the foundation’s Youth Advisory Council, recently announced eight first-round grant awards totaling $191,572 to support Northern Ottawa County.

That includes a $10,000 grant to Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women for its Lakeshore expansion. G.R.O.W. is focused on supporting women (and men) at various stages of business ownership. With this grant, they plan to increase services and support for minority-owned Lakeshore small businesses through the offering of additional classes, one-on-one business counseling opportunities and micro-lending.
