The Calumet (foreground) and the Wilfred Sykes (background) were in port at the same time in April 2020. No doubt they greeted each other with horn-blast salutes.

If you heard a horn once, twice, or up to 12 times Monday night, it was the steamship Wilfred Sykes coming in to Grand Haven’s port with a load of slag for Meekhof’s D&M.

The Sykes spent most of the day anchored offshore and, if the horn blasts were any indication, was very pleased to make its fifth visit of the season.
