Local boating safety open houses have been canceled this weekend because of Michigan’s Stay Home order, but it’s not the time to put boat safety practices on the shelf.

National Boating Safety Week, May 18-23, marks the kick-off to the recreational boating season and is usually accompanied by open houses meant to educate the public. Boat safety inspection stations were also usually part of the effort.
