Every 10 years, people are encouraged to take the census for the United States to get a count of its citizens, which can help in the disbursement of more than $675 billion of federal funding to different states and communities, according to My2020Census.gov.

While information on the census was sent out in the spring, with a deadline set for the end of July, the final date for collecting the data this year has been pushed back to Sept. 30.
