When a Miami couple visited Spring Lake while on vacation in 2018, they had no intentions of staying longer than just the weekend.

But after Robert Lopez and Patrick Roggenbau purchased and rehabilitated the Lilley Mansion – a Victorian home now open as a bed-and-breakfast – an epiphany was born to something bigger. After forming a nonprofit called Lilley Cares, the two are not only full-time residents but back to flick the switch on Nov. 26 to illuminate downtown Spring Lake with more than 130,000 lights.
