FERRYBURG — A state historical marker has been approved to honor the late Hezekiah G. Smith, namesake for Smith’s Bayou and Smith’s Bridge in Ferrysburg.

Ferrysburg Mayor Rebecca Hopp, who conducted the research for the project, said a dedication ceremony for the new marker is scheduled for Aug. 13, 2021, which is the anniversary of Smith’s first purchase of land in the area in 1849.
