Serving as the sheriff of Ottawa County is the greatest honor of my professional career. Unfortunately, as everyone knows, working in law enforcement has a tragic side, and having to observe the results of cycles of violence, abuse and poverty that impact young people is part of that.

Anyone who has worked in law enforcement can tell you that the best way to get young people away from crime is to make sure they never encounter it in the first place. Working to achieve that goal is the biggest reason I’m a proud member of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, an organization advocating for research-supported policies and programs that help keep kids on the right path in an effort to improve long-term public safety.
