Prep Roundup: Spring Lake girls lacrosse laps Grandville

The Spring Lake girls lacrosse team defended their home turf Friday night in a battle with Grandville at Spring Lake High School.

The Lakers jumped out to a 5-2 halftime lead and added nine goals in the second half for a 14-4 win over the Bulldogs.

Leading the balanced Laker scoring efforts were: Audrey Van Linn (4 goals), Kate Vinkemulder (3 goals), Josie Brown, Meg Ready and Sophie Winn each added two goals and Macie Kosch added one goal.

Goalies Paris Heard and Lauren Sharp split time in net for the win. Defensively, the team saw leadership from Grace VandenBosch and Reiko Johnson. Josie Brown at midfield had three interceptions.

Kate Vinkemulder took the draw the entire game, winning 90 percent of the draws.

Spring Lake is back in action on Monday as they host Hudsonville at 7 p.m.

Fruitport tennis picks up narrow win

The Fruitport girls tennis team relied on its strong singles play to edge out Zeeland West on Friday, 5-3.

Rebekah Busscher (No. 1 singles), Trinity Busscher (No. 2 singles, Kaitlyn LaBash (No. 3 singles), Haleigh Winskas (No. 4 singles) and Ashleigh Welty and Emily Dirkse (No. 1 doubles) all picked up wins for the Trojans.
