Spring Lake girls lacrosse captain Kate Vinkemulder earned a top honor this summer after completing a successful high school career in the classroom and on the field.

U.S. Lacrosse, the sport’s governing body, has released the 2019 recipients of the girls high school All-American Academic Team Member awards. Vinkemulder was selected to receive this honor.

A U.S. Lacrosse All-American Academic exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field, and represents high standards of academic achievement. US Lacrosse oversees the selection of the awards, which are administered by Area Chairs, and voted on by coaches within each geographical area.

Vinkemulder attended Spring Lake High School, where she graduated summa cum laude (4.0) as a Senior Scholar. She is a four-time All State, All Conference, and Academic All State in lacrosse. Vinkemulder also served as the SLHS Share Chair Podcast student lead, as a hospital junior volunteer, and as a youth travel team lacrosse coach.

Vinkemulder will attend Michigan State University’s Lyman Briggs College of Science and Humanities, as a member of the honors college. She has earned a position in the Osteopathic Medical Scholars Program and will major in physiology.

She also became the first recipient of this award in Spring Lake girls lacrosse history.
