A rainbow on Friday night and blue skies on Saturday greeted runners in the 9th annual Katty Shack 5k run and 1-mile walk held in Grand Haven.

Wyoming resident Jake Shavalier, 33, raced past longtime winner Ryan Holm, 33, also of Grand Rapids, for the first place trophy in 17 minutes and 59 seconds.

The fastest woman was Morgan Harney 21, of Grand Rapids, who crossed the line in 21 minutes and 20 seconds.

The Katty Shack events raise funds for The Crime Victim Foundation of Michigan in memory of Katherine Brown, Jeremy, Tyler, and Sharmaine Zimmer.

They were shot and beaten and their house set on fire in late September, 2008.

Troy Brake is serving a life sentence in prison without chance of parole after being sentenced for the murders.
