Grand Haven senior Nate Boehnke celebrates with Buccaneer students after their 28-26 victory over Jenison on Friday.

GRAND HAVEN TWP. — It had been 693 days since Grand Haven’s last OK Red football victory, on their way to a playoff berth.

After a miserable 2020, there was plenty to celebrate Friday as the Buccaneers started conference play with a thrilling 28-26 victory over Jenison. Ryan Francis’ 35-yard rushing touchdown with 3:46 to play set the Bucs up with an eight-point lead. Sophomore Gus Abraham combined with the defense to stop a 2-point conversion that would have tied the game with 1:05 to go.
