Sewer system improvements will include an upgrade to the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg force main, improvements to the treatment plant headworks, and work at various sewer lift stations in Ferrysburg and Grand Haven.
The project would include replacement of the force sewer main under the Grand River, which connects Spring Lake and Ferrysburg to the wastewater facility in Grand Haven.
The incident caused about 830,000 gallons of sanitary sewage to be released from the treatment plant in Grand Haven. That led the county to issue a temporary health advisory for a portion of the Grand River until conditions improved.
The Grand Haven-Spring Lake Sewer Authority is embarking on a process to make more than $8 million worth of upgrades to certain treatment facility components over the next several years.
